Draft US 101 North County Multimodal Strategy

The TA is accepting comments from August 1, 2025 to August 8, 2025.

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) has prepared the draft US 101 North County Multimodal Strategy which identifies projects that best meet the needs for all types of transportation options. The North County project corridor includes the area from the San Francisco and San Mateo County line to the north and approximately one mile south of the I-380 interchange and includes a one-mile buffer along US 101. This includes the cities of Brisbane, Millbrae, San Bruno, South San Francisco, and unincorporated areas of San Mateo County.

Below, you can view the draft US 101 North County Multimodal Strategy and provide input. This strategy aims to improve the way people and goods move through the North County corridor. It includes an introduction to the 101 Corridor Connect program, analysis of existing conditions, summary of the stakeholder and community outreach that was conducted, project identification and scoring methodology, and the final list of priority projects for North County.

Palo Alto is not in the County
Is there a reason for this project to be named this? While BART Station Access is improved, it's only one of the reasons for the project
Many Class III Bike Routes have been installed. City will send to you the plans
Caltrain Station is slightly to the south at San Bruno Ave
These are not existing facilities? Huntington is is Class 3 Bike Route from Caltrain Station to Mill City Limitsbrae
Looks like there's a gap to connect to Transit
Suggestion
Suggested edits:

Description: Mobility hub improvements to enhance connection of BART/Caltrain riders to access modes (including bus, vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle), such as:
- Station access signage and wayfinding - implementing Regional Mapping and Wayfinding Standards
- Bus shelter and waiting area improvements
- Other improvements that enhance rider station access.

Note to project team: To refine the text for this fact sheet, facility loading zones and parking signage would be covered by "vehicle" access modes.
Suggestion
Please correct to say Sponsor: City of San Bruno, since there that's not within our jurisdiction.
Suggestion
Suggest removing "including implementing regional wayfinding" standard in parentheses and put it under the description header so it covers all the elements.

Also, FYI, the cost of $2.2M we provided only covers the BART stations, that should be noted. If BART receives less to be shared with Caltrain, then we may not be able to accomplish all the listed elements for each station.
Suggestion
Would it be ok to drop "rails to trails"? I don't want to imply that the active rail right of way would be converted to trails
Suggestion
I think it would be helpful for there to be some discussion of the electrification of Caltrain in this section. The new electrified service introduced significantly improved travel times and 20% more frequency at stations on weekdays. Weekend service also doubled from 60 to 30 minute frequencies. It would also be good to note that South San Francisco and Bayshore were the two stations to see the biggest increase in their weekday service (60 to 104 trains per day and 46 to 75 trains per day, respectively). In the months since electrification, ridership has grown 52.5% year-to-year.

Suggestion
I believe this is transit ridership in the study area? Can that be specified so that people don't think this is systemwide ridership?
Suggestion
I don't think it's fair to imply there are "essentially no" bike/ped crossings of the Caltrain right of way. The new South San Francisco station was designed to provide new east-west bike/ped access via the undercrossing. There are also undercrossings at San Bruno station. Sure there could be more, but "essentially no" is an overstatement.
Suggestion
I believe this data is from the 2022 Triennial Survey, but can this document cite the source please?
Question
Why is zero vehicle households a number rather than a percentage?
Suggestion
There has been a ton of growth in ridership recovery since 2022. It's doing the transit operators a pretty serious disservice to have such old data in this document. Particularly for Caltrain, whose ridership growth has significantly accelerated since electrification. We're now up to 65% of pre-pandemic levels systemwide- more than double what's shown in this table. I think in order to tell the true story of transit ridership in this region, this data needs to be updated.
Question
Should this be a 30? Project providing connectivity along the corridor by providing more reliable transit service with dedicated bus lanes and providing class 4 bike lanes to provide alternatives to driving?
Suggestion
Double-check the Class 1 paths. They do not extend around the WQCP.
Question
What Class 1 path is here?
Question
Not sure what Class 1 path you have here?
